Freedom Day 2007

Honoring Lives Changed on 9/11/01 by Changing Lives Today

Every year on September 11th, EFNT hosts Freedom Day, a community service day for 275+ EFNT stakeholders who join together in honor of those whose lives were forever changed by the tragic events that occurred in 2001. Teams of enthusiastic volunteers from EFNT member companies come out to "answer the call" to promote the American spirit of hopefulness.

Last year, Freedom Day partnered up with Junior Achievement to implement a hands on business skills curricullum for K - 5 students.  This interactive, one-day training gave more than 1100 hundred kids an opportunity to see business through the eyes of an entrepreneur.  Other Volunteers at the schools planted gardens, installed a fountain (complete with a waterfall!), painted classrooms, offices, swingsets and picnic tables.

Another group of volunteers head out to CHAI -- Community Homes for Adults Inc.-- to paint, built shelving, discard trash and old furniture, design and install storage shelving, powerclean community areas and much more for this wonderful program that provides services and an independant living environment for people living with congnitive disabilities.

After a day of sweating, laughing and learning, volunteers reunited to celebrate accomplishments and received Freedom Day awards including:

This year we are excited to spend the day in partnership with Catholic Charities at the Brady Center, a facility which provides family services in East Dallas. Key initiatives of this Center include senior nutritional and recreational services, health screenings, emergency assistance, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, transportation for the elderly and monthly supplemental food services.

In addition,  volunteers will roll up their sleeves to paint, landscape and build a playground with the Interfaith Housing Coalition, a nonprofit that provides housing, programs and services to Dallas-area families in poverty and homelessness.

So mark down Tuesday, September 11th on your calendar as reserved for Freedom Day.

Thank you for your generous support of EFNT and for participating in this event.
