Freedom Day 2009

Honoring Lives Changed on 9/11/01 by Changing Lives Today

Three thousand.  That is the approximate number of people that lost their lives due to the tragic events that occurred on September 11, 2001.

SevenThat’s the number of years the Entrepreneurs Foundation of North Texas has hosted Freedom Day, a network-wide community service event, to honor these thousands of lives lost and changed on that horrific day.

Three hundred and forty three That’s the number of firefighters who gave their lives that day in the line of duty.

TwoThat is the number of years EFNT has selected Dallas Fire-Rescue as a service partner for Freedom Day, when caring volunteers from EFNT’s network of good corporate citizens roll up their sleeves to make a meaningful impact on the community.

This year, 300 volunteers from EFNT’s Member Companies will spend the day contributing hundreds of hours of service to the men and women of Dallas Fire-Rescue by giving their Training and Maintenance Facility in South Dallas a long-awaited make-over, improving the environment for the 1700 fire fighters that utilize the campus annually.  This is the continuation of a partnership that launched last year when EFNT volunteers fanned out to six fire stations and the fire museum to paint, scrub, landscape, refinish and retile, giving Dallas Fire Fighters the biggest proverbial “thank you” note that they ever received.  It’s great to have the privilege of doing even more for them this year!

Over the past eight years, EFNT has engaged thousands of volunteers who have provided thousands of hours of service to Dallas-area charities during this powerful day of community service.  Every year, dozens of companies have met the urgent needs of such nonprofits as the Wilkinson Center, Camp Summit, the Science Place, Interfaith Housing Coalition, Central Dallas Ministries and Catholic Charities.  This year, when the United States Congress has declared September 11th a National Day of Service and Remembrance, EFNT will make this Freedom Day the most memorable one ever.
